Splendid 10 SCOTTS!

Splendid 10 SCOTTS!

The irrepressible Travelling Gourmet drops in on the NEW Scotts Lounge after its makeover costing several million dollars, now know simply as “10 Scotts” to enjoy…

“MEDIUM” done Beef Steak with rich, dark flavoursome Thyme Sauce accompanied by roasted root vegetables sprinkled with Rosemary, tart and mouth-watering Onion Chutney & zesty Gold, Green and Red Marinated Capsicum (bell peppers). Covering the 21mm thick juicy beef like a ravishing lady’s enticing negligee were huge, fresh green Arugula (rocket) leaves. I always like Arugula with beef, and even lamb because it gives that invigorating aromatic peppery flavour to the meat when eaten together. The avant garde pinewood and glass wine cellar impresses. Lunch here is a smart casual affair with business people, tai-tais out shopping and tourists, plus in house guests of the Grand Hyatt. The luxurious 5 star Grand Hyatt Hotel is where this all-in-one  Bistro, Afternoon Tea Room, Bar and Chill-Out Lounge is located. Strategically, it is only a fragmentation grenade lob from bustling Orchard Road, Singapore’s Bond Street.

I like big, juicy Steaks!

Wine with food is like coffee with cream…

Warm Wood Welomes!

The floor is light brown hardwood, the walls are the same, while pine coloured hard wood pillars give romantic privacy to certain cosy corners of the dining area. It is Monday 29 August 2011 and 1533 and I am typing this on my laptop in the Library.

What’s the Library?

It’s a Library for one, but also the Business Center where pretty, helpful ladies in harem pants and loose & comfy brown blouses attend to your requests for photocopying, faxing and so forth. It is also a lovely place to have a steaming hot Caffe Latte with one of the Grand Hyatt’s crunchy choc-chip cookies! This is what I am relishing now after a splendid dessert of freshly baked Apricot Tart with lashings of cream and 2 bright red appealing raspberries. Not too sweet as Chefs now know that many diners are very health and weight conscious.

I could not resist freshly sliced Bananas Flambee with Myer’s Dark Rum. The sweet lady Sous Chef used a blowtorch because she cooks on a magnetic induction cooker …and so the classic good ol’ tilt the saucepan method cannot be used. It is called ‘Bananas Foster’ in ‘The Big Easy’ (New Orleans). Ce dessert est un vral! (this dessert is quite delicious in French). Flambees appeal to my fiery nature as it does to all red blooded gentlemen!

See the blue tip of the blow torch!

Afternoon Tea here is a very fun and informal meal that can be enjoyed without too much red tape and aksi-keropok, yahyah-papaya antics. Just come and enjoy yourself. I adore the gigantic fresh strawberries and blackberries and cute ‘patisserie avec framboise’ (raspberries) and ‘cool’ cakes to make your mouth water…

Je t’aime framboise…

Vera Beer, the Manageress hails from Switzerland so I got to practice my hoch-Deutsch (German) with her. Vera is tall, pretty and ‘tres jolie’ as they say in ‘la ville lumiere’.

When you are in the area, drop by 10 Scotts as I did today.

Then you’ll happily sing Edith Piaf’s signature tune:

Je ne regrette rien!

It means “I regret nothing!”

ENJOY and Guten Appetit! {:-)
