Story by Dr. Michael Lim The Travelling GourmetTM
The intrepid Travelling Goumet gets a present of Laroshell Obstbraende German Chocolates only to find that…
MOULDY chocolates were inside the box! I made a note of the bar code 4 250231 141874 and contacted Delitzscher Schokoladenfabrik GmbH, Duebener Strasse 33, D-04509, Delitzsch, Germany. Their website is:
Web: www.halloren.de
Their Manager Juliane Fischer asked for the expiry date and a photo of the mouldy chocolates, but I had thrown them away. Juliane emailed me to say: “…then we can do nothing. The bar code is not enough. All the chocolates have the same bar code.”
Very annoyed, I wrote to the Vorstandsvorsitzender (CEO )Klaus Lellé
and he replied:
Dear Mr. Lim,
I‘m very sorry about your complain. But it’s true what Mrs. Fischer wrote. It isn’t possible to process a complaint only with the bar code.
I regret that I can not give you a different answer.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen aus der ältesten Schokoladenfabrik Deutschlands

They are supposedly Germany’s oldest chocolate maker (der ältesten Schokoladenfabrik Deutschlands) ! Obviously, their operational methods are as old, outdated and outmoded as their age! The Ernest & Julio Gallo winery in California, one of the best and biggest wineries in the world, is able to find out from which vineyard the grapes were harvested from, on which date, etc. just from the bar code of the wine. Where is the German efficiency??? Obviously non existent! I am absolutely appalled by the very poor & uncaring customer service and extremely poor manufacturing standards of this chocolate maker. Absurd!
Das gefaellt mir total nicht! Was fuer eine Bloedsinn!
