Tendil et Lombardi Champagne
One of the 75 maisons de champagne in the region, I liked:
Blanc de Blancs of which only 50,000 bottles are produced. It riveted me with the intense lime and fresh cut lemon flavours plus the excellent ‘attack’.
Rose de Saignee made with 100% Pinot Noir. I admired the colour of pink roses made by 5o hours of skin contact, something unusual in Champagne where most Roses are made by adding red wine. Ripe red berries seduced my tastebuds…
The piece de resistance was Cuvee Hymenee. Hymenee means in Greek: a perfect marraige, something very rare nowadays. Here the marraige of 50% Pinot Noir & 50% Chardonnay makes this a good match with Coquille Saint-Jacques (scallops) in a light creamy sauce spiked with garlic.
