The inspiring Travelling Gourmet goes to a hotel near a hospital to taste the delights of…

MARVELLOUS Peranakan cuisine with a modern twist in ZAFFRON. This cosy restaurant in 2 year old Hotel Oasia is next to Tan Tock Seng Hospital but don’t let that put you off. Executive Chef William Soh of Oasia Hotel presents delicious goodies like Fish Head Curry with Stingray, Coquilles St. Jacque on the half shell with yummy orange roe, big boiled Prawns with slightly spicy Salsa,

Laksa Singapore Style with cute quail’s eggs a la minute, Roast Duck and Crispy Roast Chicken, Roasted caramelized Carrots, Green, Red & Gold Capsicums & much more when I dined there tonight. His Soup of Lotus Root medallions, meaty pork ribs and Sotong plus whole garlic cloves is just perfect, not too salty and not too peppery. A warm ambience with jigsaw puzzle wooden walls and wooden slated floor, plus cool steel fittings on one wall gives the cosy dining area a very 21st Century feel. Steven Ho, the Asst. Restaurant Manager is ever helpful.

Never, ever forget DESSERT!

There is ice cream of Mint, Chocolate, Strawberry & more…served Teppanyaki style. The Chef blends the flavours you select on an icy cold marble slab and adds M & Ms, Chocolate Chips and even Gummi Bears & Rainbow Rice as you wish! I adore the Durian Pengat, velvety in texture and with little sago balls…so shiok! A selection of Fresh Fruits is de rigeur. Have the pineapple which has Bromelain enzyme that aids your digestion. This lovely restaurant is a hidden gem in the Novena district.

Shhhh….don’t tell too many people about this place. I don’t want it to be too crowded. And get this! A bottle of superbo sparkling Prosecco Bisol Bel Star DOC is only S$55++. Bisol wines are of the highest quality. I have visited their winery and vineyards deep in the heart of Valdobbiadene in sunny Italy. Their MD, Gianluca Bisol is one of the nicest and smartest winemakers you could ever hope to meet. Red and white wines are only S$13++ a glass! Salute and ENJOY!
