CHAMPAGNE on WHEELS!
Story & photos by Dr. Michael Lim The Travelling GourmetTM
The irreverent Travelling Gourmet goes to Crossroads Cafe of the Marriott to quaff chilled VCP Champagne!
MANY cannot help but agree that the Champagne prices were very competitive at S$15 per glass, especially when you compare with the price of a glass of Non Vintage Krug Champagne in Jaan Restaurant…which is S$70 + 10% Service Charge plus 7% Goods & Services Tax on the S$77!!! Daylight Robbery!
The champagne was cool, the weather ws hot and so was the “Dinette” lady decked out in a 1960s waitress outfit. A DJ played Elvis “The King” Presley’s hits and The Beatles’ “Money can’t buy me Love“. This got a Frenchman in Bermuda shorts called Pierre dancing and jiving to the rock & roll tunes. The Airsteam Bus reminded me of my good friend, Bob Blumer‘s “Surreal Gourmet” in which he cooked all manner of food on the move…
A 75cl bottle of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin NV Champagne cost just S$79. Very good value indeed! Marriott and I always have good vibrations, In 2004, I was the FIRST gourmet in the worl dto match DURIAN with VCP Rose Reserve 1997…at the Marriott Singapore!
I’ll drink to that. Zum Wohl!
