Blu at Shangri-La Singapore has closed!

MAGNIFICENT views of the Orchard Road environs could be enjoyed from this restaurant and there was live jazz music and the most beautiful waitresses in Singapore at one time. The American Chef here before he went to Puerto Rico is a good friend and his food was good…sans molecular gastronomy. I did not think much of the cuisine of Kevin Cherkas who has disappeared with the closure of Blu since 2012. His molecular gastronomy creations were never a hit with the diners, and he adamantly refused to do any food tasting for the Press on Thurdays, Fridays and Saturdays as he was something of a yahya papaya prima donna. As The Travelling Gourmet I like to do my food tasting on days and nights when the restaurant is busy and full. Only then can we see the true measure of the Chef at the helm. Kevin’s raison d’etre was that he could show off his cusine better to impress the Press when there were not so many diners in Blu. Well, I was not impressed. And now Blu like so many good restaurants in Singapore have gone the way of the Dodo bird, never to return…

C’est la vie…{:-)
