MOST probably one of the newest bistros in the Neil Road area. Aptly named “Das Lokal” which is colloquail German (Umgangssprache) for ‘the local pub or bistro”. I say aptly because the Goethe Institute which is tasked with promoting the German language and culture around the world, is located just above “Das Lokal”.
Only 2 days old!
A warm welcome from Chef Owner Darren and Co-Owner Louise was very much appreciated, and so was the warm and cosy decor with rough hewn wood topped tables and spacious design. There is a long bar on the left as you enter. I tried the Roast Beef and Onion Sandwich on toasted brown bread served on a wooden platter. I also liked the Fried Egg Sunny Side Up, Bockwurst (German Sausage), Sauerkraut, Grilled Tomato and Onion Marmalade with Toasted Pumpernickel Bread. Chef Darren makes his own tasty pickles and condiments like tangy blood-red Beetroot Pickle, Ricotta Cheese and Norwegian Mackerel Smoked In-House. The Mackerel is mouth-watering without being overly salty.
To complete my light lunch, I had a nice Cafe Latte with an appealing pattern of hearts on top! Das Lokal just opened on Friday 13 June, 2014! This place is set to be a hang-out for the staff and students of the Goethe Institute and also for people who like German inspired food and beer in a casual ambience…
Guten Appetit! 🙂
