The irascible and suave Travelling GourmetTM goes to quaff Champagne and to tell you about the…
MOST recent Wine App for your Apple iPhone. It is called Epicurio and is the first Asian Wine & Spirits Social App. It aims to develope a Wine Loving fraternity of everyday wine drinkers BUT not wine snobs. I think it is a good idea. At the moment the App is only for the Apple iPhone but I hope in future it will become available for the Samsung Galaxy and other Android Smart phones.
The launch was held at The Sultan. This a quaint boutique hotel on Beach Road. With the Ruinart Champagne flowing freely, the CEO of Epicurio Clement Hochart who hails from France, extolled the many virtues of this Wine App. Clement commented in his presentation, “We’re not bringing ratings from those great Masters of Wine but sharing wine recommendations and comments with friends. Also helping to connect wine lovers with wine retailers where they can go and buy the wines they like. A tasting of 3 California wines was followed by a lucky draw where a pretty lady won a bottle of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Champagne!
After Clement’s short and sweet presentation, we adjourned to the next room to enjoy live Jazz with a female singer whose powerful voice made my day. I was so inspired by her singing that I went to sing “Mack the Knife” in German with the Jazz band! Not many know that the original version of “Mack the Knife” is from the famous German Opera called Die Dreigroschen Oper. In the German, the song is entitled, “Die Moritat von Mackie Messer”. Strangely enough, there were NO peanuts to nibble on although there were some canapes like Quail’s Eggs and Duck Rillette. Feeling hungry after the event, I adjourned to a nearby restaurant for a satisfying supper but that…is another story.
