The irreverent and irrepressible Travelling Gourmet goes to Mohamed Sultan Road to taste wines made with…
MERLOT, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese from Ornellaia Winery in Toscana or Tuscan. The venue was appropriately enough Bisteca Tuscany Ristorante at 25 Mohamed Sultan Road. This area used to be famous for raucous bars and nightclubs but have metamorphed into a restaurant district. Patrick Lachapèle, the Asia Pacific Area Manager welcomed me. Without more ado we sat down to Antipasti of Assorted Cold Cuts like Proscuitto di Parma and Bresaola(air-dried Beef) with black Olives. Another typical Antipasto was a big Burrata with Green Salad and Cherry Tomatoes. Matched with the 2nd wine of the estate Le Serre Nuove dell Orbellaia 2012..a smooth and fruit forward wine that was palate friendly. One could be forgiven for mistaking it for an Australian offering in the Old World style. The 2012 wines were just released on 1st May 2015.
