The irascible and irreverent Travelling Gourmet TM goes to get Thai food in…

MOD and hip Thaikhun, Oxford’s newest Thai restaurant near the New Oxford Theatre. The restaurant is on two levels, and is owned by a Thai lady who is also one of the Chefs in the kitchen. The decor is quite anarchical with Thai signs and knick knacks covering the walls in a haphazard fashion. The native love this rather irreverent concept and on the night I went, it was pretty full. A lot of the clientele are Asian students and local students studying at Oxford University. Thai waitresses make the dining experience authentic.

For those with no knowledge of the Thai language, Khun is a polite form of address that appplies to both gentlemen and women, that is, the equivalent of Mr. and Miss/Ms in English. The play on the words Thaikhun vis a vis Tycoon is quite witty.

Serving simple ”Street Food”” in a fun way is the hallmark of this restaurant.
