The irrepressible and adventurous Travelling Gourmet TM tells you all about the new SIA Silver Kris Lounge in London’s Heathrow Airport which is…

MARVELLOUS and very comfortable…When you check in for your flight, and go through LHR’s invariably paranoid and over zealous Security Screening, that is prone to false alarm activations on their IonScan machines which screens for explosives…you have to go down a very steep escalator to the basement and then walk, or go on the travellator… for a very LONG walk to get to the B Departure Gates area and then go up to level 1. It takes about 25 minutes! Then you have to take the lift to level 2 to get the the SIA Silver Kris Lounge which is next to the Air Canada and United Lounges. It is not the fault of SIA that the architect or architects who designed LHR Terminal 2 is somewhat of a moron, to make passengers walk so far with their hand luggage. LHR does NOT have free trolleys for passengers to use to transport their hand carry luggage!!! My trusty carry on ninja black bag is of the old fashioned style with no wheels and a pull up handle, so I get a lot of exercise for my biceps, triceps and arm muscles! After this trip I swore I would treat myself to a new high tech light weight trolley bag with a retractable handle and wheels!

It was such a relief and a happy delight to finally reach the Lounge!

Inside…it is very luxurious and comfortable with lots of good food and wines and Laytons Champagne too! Much of the food is Singaporean cuisine, and there is a local Chinese Singaporean Chef in the kitchen. There are also Old World wines which I always find go well with Indian curries. There are also cubicles where you can work on your computer styled like Business Class seats. Lots of magazines and newspapaers if you want to keep up with the news. The Straits Times is available but alas, no Die Zeit or Die Welt…You can have a hot shower too to rejuvenate!

There is also a very nice bar with a bartender who makes cocktails like the classic Singapore Sling on order. He makes nice cocktails but was a bit rusty on the good ol’ Negroni Cocktail.

Food, Glorious Food!

Assorted steaming hot Tim Sum, Chicken Tikka Masala Curry, Lentil and Cashew Nut Curry, Wantan Noodles with Chicken Broth and hard boiled egg, Penanag Style Char Koay Teow with Lap Cheong (Chiinese pork sausage) and more…I put the Tim Sum in with the noodles for a nice bowl of comfort food. I also relished Chicken Yakitori! For the health conscious, enjoy healthy Salads like Caesar Salad and Mixed Greens and yummie Wiltshire Ham and Pickle Sandwiches on Farmer Bread.

Desserts include Fresh Fruit Medley, Mango Creme Brulee, Artisan Cheeses with pear Chutney and…wait for it…Singapore Sling Ice Cream!
