MARVELLOUS hot ‘n spicy Szechuan specialities in Szechuan Court, and for this year’s MId Autumn Festival aka the “Mooncake Festival”, they have some tempting treats in the form of NEW flavours for their Mooncakes…
In China, they are not so innovative and it is mainly Lotus Seed paste. However in Hong Kong, they are more creative…but sunny Singapore takes the Tiramisu for CREATIVITY and unusual flavours and combinations! Every year I look forward to tasting NEW flavour and texture profiles. Some work very well. Some, not so well…Non importa for ‘Who Dares Wins!’
It is ironic that in this age of the Internet and space exploration where man has landed on the Moon already…that we still exalt the Mid Autumn Festival. The Festival is about the Moon Goddess which you probably do not believe in but what the hell, nowadays it is all about the Mooncakes! Wahahaha!
Let the Tasting begin!
Cheerful Chef Wong’s new creations include winsome and wonderful ingredients like…
Healthy ruby red healthy Cranberries in Snowskin with Lotus Seed paste in a Mini size that is so good for portion control so you do not overeat!
Another goodie is the Japanese Inspired “Manga” Mooncake with Imperial YUZU. he Japanese love this citrus fruit which is a citrus fruit like a hybrid orange and lemon. Inside are little Chocolate spheres affectionately called “Chocolate Pearls”. They suprise you with a “crunch” when you bit into the Mooncake!
The favourite of many who like a bit of alcohol in their Mooncake, that is, the romantic Rum and Raisin Mooncake is available this year too. Yes, I like a bit of rum and rasin…MORE Rum and less raisins Ha! Ha!
When the MOON hits your eye like a big PIzza Pie…
That’s Amore (Love)
The best laid plans of mice and men…
MAY come to naught…Some years ago one of the Fairmont management staff and her team had a childish idea that they thought was brilliant. It was to make “Angry Birds” Mooncakes to coincide with the “Angry Birds” cartoon movie. The licence for the “Angry Birds” trademark was paid, a big sum…and also special “Angry Birds” moulds were purchased for a lot of money too. To cut a long story short, the “Angry Birds” mooncakes were a disaster…sales bombed and a lot of money was lost. How do I know this? Wir haben unsere Wege…(we have our ways in German). The moral of the story is that by and large, people still prefer their Mooncakes to be traditional as most are purchased as corporate gifts…
