Fruehstueck with a difference…

The ever-curious and debonair Travelling Gourmet TM visits a 5 star hotel in Orchard Road to experience the…

MYRIAD delights of a most singular Breakfast also known as Fruehstueck in German…in Straits Kitchen! OMG! So much good food the mind BOGGLES! I love the Grand Hyatt!

I liked the modern high tech re-creation of the good ol’ KOPI TIAM half boiled egg served in a saucer with Soy Sauce traditionally…Here the eggs are boiled at 61.1 degrees Celsius “sous vide”!!!

I saw a horizontally challenged Chiense lady of about 45 years old stuffing lots of pastries and bread rolls and brioches from the Breakfast Buffet into rectangular clear plastic  boxes to “tar pow” (take away). I looked at her quizzically with one eyebrow raised. She looked a me and somewhat ashamed and with a flush…continued defiantly to stuff more bread rolls into another plastic box! Ahhh…the true face of Hman Nature and GREED! C’est la vie, mes amis….

Chinese “Croissants” aka “Harm Chim Phe’ang” or Butterfly brioche and Yew Char Kueh…all freshly fried “a la minute”!

Noodles with hearty soup tailor=made for you! Cappuccino and Teh Tarek and fresh fruits like Paw-Paw…excellent for the digestion! Oh YUMMIE!img_5899

Some like to start with Cereal and Swiss Yoghurt…others like to end with Cereal and healthy Melon Seeds, Cashews and more!…

img_5898I especially like the Carrot and Beetroot and Apple! I make my own ABC Cocktail chock-full of rejuvenating anti-oxidants. Here, ABC does not stand for American Born Chinese…wahahahah!

Lest I forget, I adore the Egg Station too. I decided to TEST the Chef and asked for one “Egg “sunny side up” and one “Egg easy over- over easy”…he passed with flying colors! One thing about the Grand Hyatt and its capable staff like French F & B Director Jerome Pagnier and his colleague Giree…is that they keep things “strack” (“Green Beret” parlance for “shipshape”).

Bon appetit! 🙂
