Paella and more by the SEA outside of Barcelona…

The exceptional and exuberant Travelling Gourmet TM goes to enjoy the SAS (Sea and Sand] at a unique and very, very YUMMIE Restaurant…

MOST famous for Paella and many other Catalan goodies! Roberto,  the Manager welcomed me warmly and I sat in the far corner of the terrace. I like to have no one behind my back…you never know when a Chef or cook you have written a bad review about might want to creep up behind you with a huge and sharp butcher knife…PERISH the thought! Tai Kut Lay See! For Escriba, the reviews can only be TOP CLASS! Although, totally different in looks from Raul Julia who played Roberto Straussamnm, the Head of the dreaded Secret Police in Parador…in the hot cult movie called ‘Moon over Parador’, somehow his charm reminded me of the character. You must come here! The Pan am Tomate or crusty toasted bread drizzled with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and with tomato puree lovingly rubbed in top is to kill evil tinpot dictators for!

Roberto, I learned has worked in some of the finest restaurants in KLondon, including one Michelin Star or Estrella Andy William’s restaurant near Oxford Circus. Hence his very good English with a Spanish accent. We communicated in Spanish and English. I always like to practice my Spanish whenever possible…Ubung macht der Meister as the Germans always say…

Another must taste dish is the Mussels served in a two tier ninja black enamel pot with… piping and smoking hot MUSSELS smothered with a rich sauce, that is not overly tangy…of tomatoes and onions. Oftentimes, simple food tastes the BEST! The natural flavours emerge swiftly and suddenly  like bold SAS troopers on a shock raid! Your palate is overwhelmed and delighted! OMG YUMMY!

Perfetto PAELLA!!!

Three different types entice, seduce and SATISFY your eager tastebuds and hungre tummie! Oh Madonna! So bloody good! There is ninja black Squid Ink Paella, Seafood Paella in the traditional way and Mussels Paella! All “superbe”! Served in large traditional Paella pans that are as big as a Roman Galdiators shield…the awesome paellas are not chockful of rice AND the rice is only about 15mm deep. On top a simple garnish of a sprig of Rosemary. The rest comprise super-fresh tasty ingredients plus sexy flavour and aromas to blow your socks off!! Others have more rice and less higher food-cost flavourful ingredients.
