MAGNIFICENT…Verona!
Verona is a captivating city steeped in romance and history, like the well preserved house of a real person immortalised forever by “The Bard”. Casa Giulietta exudes medieval charm and mystique…and high over one archway the observant visitor can see a time-worn stone carved ‘hat’ or capulet in Italian. It is of course the house of Juliet immortalised in Shakespeare’s play “Romeo and Juliet”.
VINITALY in Verona!

I am now in the city of romance and love that is vibrant Verona. Straight from Porta Nuova verona train station I went to Veronafiere to observe the 5Star wine competition, and interviewed the organiser and chief wine judge, Korean Stevie Kim who was born in Korea but grew up in America, and now lives in Italy.
The Travelling Gourmet TM (TTG): Tell me about the 5Star Wine competition because I was a Wine Judge 3 times in the previous Concorso Enologico Internazionale Vinitaly before, which ran for 26 years.
Stevie: Yes, 5Star wines is in its 3rd year now, and it is based on a point system. Only 90 points and above…and we produce a guide.
Stevie promptly presented me with a copy of the 2018 edition.
Stevie: Previously, it was by the Enology Association but now it is all done by Vinitaly.
TTG: How did you get in to the wine business?
Stevie: With a whimsical smile, ‘Through the side door really…I wanted to launch a wine investment fund but in 2007 the market crashed! I approached Vinitaly and Veronafiere and got recruited…My job is to promote Italian wines!
Work in progress…to be continued…
