The dashing and debonair Travelling Gourmet TM jets on Singapore Airlines, the world’s best airline, to…

MERRIE olde England and stays at the first ANDAZ in the world on Liverpool Street in London. The Andaz is one of my favourite hotels in London & I stayed here very soon after it first opened. The luxurious gothic 5 Star hotel is very well located. It is just minutes from Liverpool Street Rail and Tube station and is perfect for exploring the rejuvenated East End of London which includes Shoreditch and vibrant Spitalfields Market.

Eastway Brasserie for Dinner!

I went to try the food at Eastway…which has a very classy and cheerful decor. Comfortably enscounced at Table Number 1, I had a good view of bustling Liverpool street outside the art-deco brasserie. At the end of the restaurant the open kitchen lets the diners see all the action as the Chefs prepare the food enthusiastically. Executive Chef Sam Dunleavy who is is born and bred in London, loves to give a modern twist to classic dishes.

G & T aka Gin and Tonics!

My aperitif was the GINdependant Cocktail which the bartender enthusiastically shook up at the Bar. An aromatic cocktail with an uplifting medicinal aftertaste, it was concocted with Sipsmith London Dry Gin melded with Fresh Raspberries, Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic and Thyme. I chose it because I love Gin and also raspberries. Gin lovers, this is the place for you! The reason is that the Gin and Tonics here are made with exoticlly different Gins, like Audemus Pink Pepper Gin and Warner Edwards Rhubarb Gin. All the Gins here have Juniper Berries. However, each Gin has different Botanicals and flavours.

For a very good overview of Eastway, the Degustation Menu is recommended. An Amuse-bouche to whet your appetite is Gin Cured Salamon Tartare laced with a tangy Lemon Tonic Gel, Avocado and Radish Medallions paired with a Spanish sparkling wine Cava Pere Ventura.

I must mention the effervescent and helpful Manager from Poland whose nickname is “Aga”. Aga is very good at recommendind and explaining the dishes and Gin cocktails with a happy smile.

The next dish featured Grilled Asparagus with Burrata, Peas, Radish, Crispy Croutons drizzled with fragrant Basil Oil. Nicely matched with a German Riesling redolent with petroleum notes by Knipser. Perfectly grilled, the asparagus still had a fresh crunch and the natural flavours were enhanced with the Basil Oil.

I love Asparagus! 🙂

The “Middle Course” of Pan Seared Scallops, Courgette (eggplant) Puree and Semi-Dried Tomatoes plus Pine Nut Jus was delectable! The scallops were well prepared being slightly rare in the middle. Yummie!
