The intrepid and implacable Travelling Gourmet TM takes the train to Portogruaro to visit…
MOLETTO winery where I was warmly welcomed by Mauro Stival, the Director, his brother the Oenologist and Chiara, his sister who in charge of Marcom. I saw the immaculate vineyards, some 100 hectares planted with different grape varietals including the ancient Franconia or Blaufrankisch grape varietal..Spring had woken up the grape vines and the green spritely leaves were sprouting vigourously. It is a moot point that the white varietals like Pinot Grigio have more leaves sprouting than the red varietals! I met maurp’s 86 year old papa who is still going strong. After a full VIP guided tour of the winery, including the bottling plant we adjourned to a most enlightening Wine Tasting and lunch! Moletto is a very ‘Green’ and all energy is suppled by extensive Solar Panels!
